Give to a forest in need in their memory
Mary Lou Shuler, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. She was 79 years old.
Mary Lou was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on September 29, 1945, to Thomas Shuler Sr. and Mildred Shuler.
She was an active social butterfly as a member of the Tri Delta Sorority at Coe College in Iowa, but left school before graduation to care for her beloved mother. Following a short first marriage to John Barrett, and owning a hog farm near St. Charles, IL (where she won regional awards for her natural flower gardens) she and her second husband (Bernie Connon; married 1977-1982) moved to Eugene, Oregon with their new son Collin and daughter, Sheilah, on the way.
In Eugene, she soon started a new chapter. As a single mother of two young children, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oregon and worked for 31 years at Newman's Fish Market, where she quickly became a popular figure behind the counter. Her warm heart, genuine interest in others, and radiant smile made her a favorite of customers, colleagues, neighbors, and folks all over town.
Mary Lou was a mother to many, offering support, guidance, and love to not only her own children but also to extended family and countless friends. Her home was always open to those in need of a kind word or a place of refuge. She is survived by her children, Collin and Sheilah (SIL Woody) Fowler; her grandsons (Solomon and Aamion Fowler); her siblings, Thomas, Matt, Michael, Mark, and Patrick; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mary Lou's life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Lane County Farmers Market Pavilion in Eugene from 12PM to 3PM, where friends and family are invited to share stories/memories and honor her remarkable life. Please visit www.maryloushuler.com for info and updates.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bridgeway House; bridgewayhouse.org in Mary Lou's name, continuing her legacy of love and care for others https://www.registerguard.com/obituaries/pore1445252

Rest In Peace MaryLou. Thank you to whoever posted this. I had learned of MaryLou's passing some time ago but did not have the details. She was one of the most beautiful girls in our class!
