I first met Tom and his younger brother Owen at the Austin YMCA while living in the Austin district of Chicago back in the 1953-54 range...Lost touch when I moved to OP in '56........ Low and behold, who comes wandering in to join the 8th grade Lincoln School class of '59 but good old Tom King! Our basketball team instantly got a lot better - as some people named Karr, Payne (Walters), Gilchrist and Mulvey (RIP, Ed) could attest to since we beat Hawthorne for the city title that year.
Tom and I lost touch in HS and he was lucky enough to marry one of my favorite people, Cherie Petrzilka, sometime after that. We caught up a bit at the 25th reunion in '88. I only learned of hispassing a couple of years ago. RIP old friend...
Hey Steve. That game was a painful childhood memory. LOL. You are correct about Tom King being the difference. He was a man amongst boys and tough as nails. I remember it was a great game and I also remember lighting you up for 18 points! I am sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Tom.
