I knew Alan in grade school.  He was nice though somewhat shy.  One day he suggested that I get a big jar and put holes in the top and bring it to school with me.  He had been having a great deal of fun and success catching grasshoppers in a big field near his house, and he suggested I join him to catch grasshoppers after school the next day.  Well, I did, and sure enough we had a great time capturing many grasshoppers!  So after such a rewarding experience I didn't just want to let them go.  Instead, I put leaves in the jar and brought them home to show my mother.  She was somewhat upset that I brought them home. She suggested, somewhat pasionately, that I just let them go. But I would have none of it. I took them to my room, I'm sure thinking I would just enjoy watching them and they would do fine.  It didn't work out that way.  Lesson learned.  But we sure had fun that day!
